Turning words into action. (Discussion)

lucyinthesky saidMon, 12 Jan 2009 22:43:38 -0000 ( Link )

Sometimes we know what we have to do – believe that “we can”, be optimistic, do our best and love others. But sometimes putting words into action can be difficult.

When you’re starting from a low point, how can you have the audacity to get back up again? What sort of little steps can you do to turn your thoughts into real life?

Hi Tiffany, I agree with you that such situations – the mind-body conflict in life – are common and can be a potential cause of stress and embarrassment in life – the infinite possibilities that the mind can dream/conceive and believe itself to be capable of turning into realities but only to find itself severely and repetitively restrained by its own or physical limitations. However, that does not in any way demean the beauty or possibilities of realisation of those dreams. I strongly believe that every thing that can be conceived rationally by human mind can be achieved. However, in life, nothing great has ever been achieved without great struggles, several mistakes/failures, pains and tears preceding such great achievements. The qualities of all great achievers have been – faith and passion coupled with perseverance, patience, and untiring efforts towards their dream.

To minimise the stress and pain in achieving your goal (whatever it might be), I suggest that keep an eye on your goal and put your best efforts to achieve it. However, instead of bothering too much about the outcome of your actions/efforts, start/learn enjoying the process/journey itself towards the goal. That way, even though, the journey will take its own time to reach that goal, you would be so engrossed in enjoying this journey (read ‘your work/efforts’) that you will not feel too stressed out or bored!:)

For me visualizing the outcome helps a lot.

What I mean is this: suppose something goes wrong; you’ve contracted some ilness or you didn’t get that job you were so certain about after that interview or The Guy just broke up with you and so on.

First imagine the worst about that situation. You’ll need hospitalization, suffer, even die! You won’t have money for rent or anything else for that matter. You are now single again (enough said).

Then tell yourself: and what if that worse happens, then what? Someone will help me, someone will remember me, I’ve done some good in this world.

Start planning; if this or that happens, what shall I do. where will I go, whom shall I turn to, what can I do.
Read about my situation online, find answers, look for any kind of job, have a baby on my own and so on.

Then I think you start to relax – just by having a plan.

Will you follow that plan? will you need to? Doesn’t matter.

Now you are relaxed you can figure out things more clearly.

You can visualize the morning after.

Good points, rkmittal. I guess one important quality to have in such a situation is that of patience.

And great advice, windwind! These are great concrete steps to think about.

Oh, and always make a list of what you have/need/want to do next.

That way you can free your brain for a while and rest, as everything is down on paper and you will approach it later.

I know this always works for me when I feel overwhelmed.

Try to always remind yourself of the goal/action/purposes, whenever you find yourself from being not on right path. It will give you some sort of energy and power and realization for acheiving your destinations.
